In the event of an after-hours emergency for your sick or injured pet, we now refer our patients to the Niagara Veterinary Emergency Clinic (NVEC) in St. Catharines, near Brock University.
If you have an emergency when our office is closed please phone the NVEC at 905-641-3185 or 1-800-465-1414 and then proceed there. We have invested in a membership in this quality after-hours hospital so that they will provide care to our patients when we are closed.
DIRECTIONS TO NVEC: Please note- they have recently moved (Sept 08) to a new location about 5 minutes away from their original location across from the Pen Center. They are now near Brock Univeristy. Their new facility is much bigger and very nice. We are very confident with the care our patients receive there.
Take the QEW toward St. Catharines. Take the exit for the 406 South. Drive about 12 minutes and take the St. David's Rd WEST exit... second exit past the Pen Center. Turn left at the THIRD light onto Glenridge/Merritville Highway, and turn left into the THIRD driveway. Address is 3300 Merritville Highway and the phone number is still 1-800-465-1414.The Niagara Veterinary Emergency Clinic will provide overnight care with continuous 24 hour monitoring to our patients, and emergency treatment when we are closed.
HISTORY OF EMERGENCY CARE AT OUR HOSPITAL: For over 50 years the veterinarians at Grimsby Animal Hospital have continued to provide on-call emergency service for our clients and patients 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. We are the only clinic in the area that has continued this after hours on-call service for so long, and it has been very convenient for clients.
However, in the event of an emergency when our clinic is closed our staff is limited to one veterinarian and sometimes a technician. This is no longer adequate for many of the emergency cases we are now seeing. We strive to provide the absolute best quality of care to our patients and so, after much consideration, we decided, as of March 1, 2006, to purchase a membership in the Niagara Veterinary Emergency Clinic so that our high quality of care could be upheld no matter what time of day or night is.
The Niagara Veterinary Emergency Clinic opened about 12 years ago. We are confident in their care and it serviced our clients well over the past few years that we have used it for after-hours card. The new facility is clean, well-equipped, well-staffed, up to date and the services are reasonably priced. Although it will be a slight inconvenience for our clients to drive to St. Catharines, we hope you understand that we are upgrading our quality of patient care and we believe this to be the best care available for our patients when our office is closed. The NVEC is open 24 hours a day to provide top notch care to our critical care patient that we refer there.
