Vaccines for Kittens & Cats

Vaccinations provide your cat and family immunity against harmful and fatal diseases.

Vaccination plays a vital role in preventive healthcare, safeguarding your kitten or cat against contagious diseases. Unvaccinated felines are vulnerable to potentially harmful and even fatal illnesses. It is crucial to vaccinate your kitten early on and continue vaccinations throughout their adult life, ensuring lifelong protection.

Which vaccines are best for my cat?

Your cat’s veterinarian will determine which vaccinations are appropriate for them based on individual factors such as lifestyle and health status. Ultimately the final decision as to what vaccines your cats needs is up to you.

Vaccinations are administered based on the risk certain disease pose to your kitten or cat. We recommend that all cats be vaccinated against rabies and panleukopenia (feline distemper). Additional vaccines, such as feline leukemia virus (FeLV), may be recommended based on your cat’s risk. Many of these diseases can be fatal, so preventing them is easier and less expensive than treatment. If you have questions about vaccination, please contact us at 905-945-8631.

When should my kitten start getting vaccinated?

Kittens have some immunity while nursing. However, this is a small window of time. During their first few weeks of life, they should receive their first dosages of vaccines. Until they’re 16-weeks-old, they’ll continue to get frequent vaccines, which reduce to yearly and every other year as they age. Vaccinations are typically given during the following ages:

  • 6 to 8-weeks-old
  • 10 to12-weeks-old
  • 14 to 16-weeks-old
  • 1-year-old
