We are thirlled to be welcoming a new Veterinarian in July 2024.  Meet Dr. Danielle Harkness>>>

Pre-Travel Exam

As of August 1, 2024 there are new guidelines concerning the entry of dogs into the USA.

As of August 1, 2024, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has implemented new regulations concerning the entry of dogs into the USA.

As your trusted veterinary clinic, we are dedicated to supporting you throughout this process. While it remains the responsibility of pet owners to adhere to all regulations established by the CDC and other relevant authorities, we are here to assist you every step of the way. We strongly advise you to familiarize yourself with the updated guidelines to prevent any inconvenience or delays during travel with your pet.

From August 1, 2024, Onward: What your Dog Needs to enter the United States

The CDC has created a helpful tool called the DogBot to help you determine what rules apply to your dog based on the travel dates and where your dog is traveling from.

Use the DogBot

With these new requirements, our booking process here at Grimsby Animal Hospital for appointments concerning travel to other countries/exports has been revised. There is additional paperwork and procedures that need to be performed before your dog can travel to the USA from Canada. For this reason there is an administration fee for our team to fill out the required paperwork.

What do I need to do to prepare for my pet's Pre-Travel Visit?

  • Have 3 years of vaccination history and information for your pet

  • If your pet is younger then 3, all rabies vaccines that have been given are required

  • Book and appointment with the CFIA (fees applicable)

What is included in a Pre-Travel Visit at Grimsby Animal Hospital?

  • Check or implant a microchip - as per the CDC guidelines dogs must be microchipped before or at the same time as the rabies vaccine

  • Administer Rabies vaccine - if not up-to-date or if a microchip is implanted at this visit - and provide certificate for the vaccine

  • Physical exam to rule your pet is healthy (valid for 30 days)

  • Veterinarian endorsement on required documents
